Michael’s Magic Camp is a four-week long summer day camp for underprivileged inner-city children between the age of 8 and 12. Located in Key Biscayne in South Florida, the Summer By the Sea camp introduces children to marine life under the supervision of marine biologists and naturalists and allows them to gain first-hand experience with nature. Activities include swimming, kayaking, science beach games, arts and crafts, dissecting a squid, performing science experiments, exploring hands-on exhibits and participating in a talent show.
Summer by the Sea 2016
The 2016 summer camp runs from July 11 through Aug. 5, 2016. Because each week’s schedule differs, children can sign up for one or two weeks, or attend the entire four-week session with new and exciting activities offered every step of the way.
Fostering a Love of Nature
The mission of Michael’s Magic Camp is to reach children who face socio-economic or other challenges and help them experience the tropical beauty of South Florida. It strives to teach children a love of the environment and ways to preserve and protect the ecosystem. Through the generosity of its sponsors, Michael’s Magic Camp is able to provide a magical experience to 80 children each year free of charge.
Who are Michael’s Magic Camp’s Sponsors?
Michaels Magic Camp is sponsored by The Michael Scholz Memorial Fund that works in conjunction with the Miami-Dade Department of Cultural Affairs along with the Children’s Trust and the Board of County Commissioners. The Michael Scholz Memorial Fund relies on donations and grants from a wide variety of sources.
The Fund was established by the family and friends of Michael Scholz after his untimely death at the age of 30. Michael spent his childhood and teen years in the Key Biscayne area and loved both the sea and the sun. The goal of the fund is to provide opportunities that enhance the lives of children and strengthen their communities. Michael’s Magic Camp celebrates Michael’s life and his love for the tropical beauty of the area. By fostering a love of nature in today’s youths, Michael’s love of nature and concern for the environment lives on.
